1. What is the Biology Explorer Competition (BEC)?
The Biology Explorer Competition is an annual, online national competition that introduces students to general knowledge in Biology and the life sciences. Primary and secondary school students from all over Malaysia are invited to participate. The competition aims to instill interest in Biology, provide exposure to the field, and achieve the following objectives:
- To identify, inspire, empower, and support the next generation of leaders in the life sciences.
- To provide students with opportunities to apply their inquiry-based life science skills, developed through extracurricular activities, in real-world scenarios.
- To equip students with Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), preparing them to tackle future challenges in an ever-evolving global life sciences landscape.
2. What are the benefits of participating in Biology Explorer Competitions?

3. Our school is new to the Biology Explorer Competition Competition, and we want to join. What do we need to do next?
Each school is required to appoint at least one Teacher-In-Charge (TIC) responsible for handling registration, payment, and overseeing the competition day. The designated teacher must have a ContestHub account to ensure our secretary is informed that you are the TIC representing your school. To be officially recognized as the TIC, please reach out to our customer support team using the phone number provided in FAQs 16.
4. If I continue as the teacher in charge at the same school for the Biology Explorer Competition Competition in 2027, do I need to create a new ContestHub account, or can I use the existing one?
If your school participated in the Biology Explorer Competition Competition in 2026 and you are still teaching at the same school, you do NOT need to create a new ContestHub account. You can use your existing account to register for the upcoming competition by login using the same username and password. Kindly update your profile account.
5. How many teachers can be assigned as Teacher-In-Charge (TIC)?
For the Biology Explorer Competition, our system allows up to three teachers-in-charge to be assigned per school. If your school requires more than three teachers, please feel free to reach out to our support team for assistance.
6. If I transfer to another school in 2026, do I need to create a new contesthub account?
To register your students, you must create a new account on ContestHub. If you register your students using a previous ContestHub account, we will assume that the students are from your previous school, and we will also assume that you are still a teacher there.
7. Is there a minimum or maximum number of participants required from each school in the Biology Explorer Competition Competition?
We do not have any minimum or maximum requirements for registration, as we warmly welcome all schools to participate in our competition.
8. What is the important date for the Biology Explorer Competition?

9. Who can participate in Biology Explorer Competitions?
Biology Explorer Competition competitions are open to students of all levels, from primary school to secondary school. There are different categories based on the students’ grade level for international schools, allowing a wide range of students to participate.

10. How can my students participate in Biology Explorer Competitions?
Students can participate in the Biology Explorer Competition through the following registration method:
School Registration (Only Method):
All students must register through their school. A designated teacher will be appointed to manage and handle the registration process via www.contesthub.my.
Registration Fees:
- Early Bird Registration: RM40 per student
- Normal Registration: RM45 per student
Note: Early bird rates are available for a limited time only. Schools are encouraged to register early to enjoy the discounted fee.
Important:
All participants must register through their respective schools.
11. Can non-Malaysian students participate in Biology Explorer Competitions?
Yes, non-Malaysian students can participate in Earth Explorer Competition competitions. The competitions are inclusive and open to all students studying in Malaysia, regardless of their nationality.
However, only Malaysian students can represent Malaysia in the IBO.
12. How to prepare my students for the Biology Explorer Competition?
The Biology Explorer Competition provides study materials and practice papers on their official website (https://mybo-olympiad.my/) to help students prepare.
13. What is the Biology Explorer Competition's formats & scoring system for each question?
The Biology Explorer Competition is conducted online via the Autoproctor system, featuring 30 objective questions. Participants are alloted 1 hour and 15 minutes to answer, with points assigned based on their difficulty levels: easy, medium, and hard. The Autoproctor system is actives from 10 am to 5 pm on the competition day, allowing students to answer at any time within this period. All participants must use a laptop, computer, or tablet with a stable internet connection.
14. Are there any prizes for winners of Biology Explorer Competitions?
Yes, all students who participate in the Biology Explorer Competition will receive a certificate of participation.
Top-performing students will be recognized with awards categorized as Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Honorable Mention, based on their marks. Students will receive certificates reflecting their respective awards.
Note: No medals are provided; awards are issued in certificate form only.
